Sybil Jason Interview: Part V

“I adored Jolie’s voice later on in his life”
Brian Marcus Decker: What are some of your favorite Al Jolson songs?
Sybil Jason: You know this is also another question that I find interesting. Funnily enough, I adored Jolie’s voice later on in his life, especially after he’d lost a lung. His voice was deeper and mellower and I think that slow transition towards that started at the time of “The Singing Kid” movie. I like all of his songs especially in the two Jolson Story movies that
Brian Marcus Decker: Absolutely.
Sybil Jason: His voice was really strong.

A Day at Santa Anita featuring Sybil Jason, and special cameos by Al Jolson, Ruby Keeler, Edward G. Robinson, Bette Davis and more.
Brian Marcus Decker: “A Day at Santa Anita” has recently been included as bonus material with the newly released James Cagney DVD, “Each Dawn I Die”. Can you provide us any background info on how Warner Brothers made the decision to put this on that DVD?
Sybil Jason: You know I’ll tell you, this is really strange. About six months ago I got in touch with the CEO at Warner Brothers, mentioning “A Day at Santa Anita”. All my others films had been shown on TCM (Turner Classic Movies). They didn’t know anything about it. They were stunned. It wasn’t in their catalog so they started doing research and by gum they found it. So I am still lucky.
All of my Warner Brother’s films that were in black and white or color have been restored and the staff of the CEO at Warner’s who was responsible for deciding what films go on DVDs, he told that by short subjects and Technicolor was just the ticket to put on DVDs. Now since Jimmy Cagney’s DVD, “Each Dawn I Die” came out with my “A Day at Santa Anita” on it as an extra, you wouldn’t believe this, I’ve been hearing from all parts of the world how impressed everyone is with the film itself and the production values put into it. It is personally so gratifying to me.
Brian Marcus Decker: It is a really, really great entertaining and fun movie. I urge everyone to just run out and get it. I mean the James Cagney movie is great, but there’s some other things on it (“A Day at Santa Anita”), was a really shining moment for me.
Sybil Jason: Oh I’m so glad you said that. It’s one of my favorites.
Brian Marcus Decker: What was the background behind the Sybil Jason Drama Award?
Sybil Jason: Let’s see, this was the very first youth in film awards that was the junior equivalent of the Oscars, and they had different categories. The Sybil Jason Award was for the best dramatic actress and I was secretly pulling for one terrific young girl who did win it, and that was

The other side has a song by Frank Crumit called My Gal and a number A2884 with a stamped number 78854.
Would anyone want to purchase this? I dont know how you can contact me fdirectly except thru email which I give permission to add to this if the moderator would do that, otherwise I will keep checking this blog.
